2020 Kia Telluride vs. 2019 Honda Passport
The 2020 Kia Telluride and the 2019 Honda Passport are two of the top new compact crossover SUVs to be recently introduced to the North American market, so it’s only reasonable to expect they are both getting more attention than your average SUV. How do they compare?
Power and efficiency
Both the 2020 Kia Telluride and the 2019 Honda Passport are available with one engine, which makes this comparison very straightforward. The Telluride uses a 3.8-liter V8 rated at 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, while the Passport uses a 3.5-liter V6 that makes the same amount of torque but only 280 horsepower. The Telluride, therefore, wins in the power department. Because of this, it’s surprising that it also beats the Passport when it comes to efficiency. With AWD, both vehicles get a combined 21 mpg, but with FWD the Telluride gets 23 mpg over the Passport’s 22 mpg, making the Telluride the clear winner in this category.*
Despite its lower starting price, the 2020 Kia Telluride comes equipped with more interior features and technology than the 2019 Honda Passport. The base Telluride LX comes with illuminated driver and passenger vanity mirrors, leatherette seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and tri-zone climate control, none of which are available in the comparable Passport Sport. At the top of the range, the Telluride offers a head-up display, Nappa leather, and heated and ventilated second-row seats, none of which are available in the Passport in spite of their similar pricing.
One of the 2019 Honda Passport’s strongest selling points is its safety, yet even in that area, the 2020 Kia Telluride compares favorably. Of the two, it’s the only one to come with standard in-vehicle assistance service and a knee protection airbag, as well as parking assistance and blind-spot monitoring technologies. Both vehicles have yet to be crash tested at the time of writing.
It’s easy to see why the 2020 Telluride has an advantage over the new Honda Passport. Visit us at Evansville Kia to take the Telluride for a test drive or to learn more.
